Setting up a Windows Server 2008 R2 as a Router

Installing Routing Server Role:

  1. Add Server Role “Network Policy and Access Services”image
  2. Click Nextimage
  3. Select “Routing and Remote Access Services”image
  4. Review the summary and click Installimage
  5. Close Successful install Wizardimage

 

Accessing Routing and Remote Access Server Console:

  1. Via Server manager > Roles > Network Policy and Access Services > Routing and Remote Access Serverimage
  2. Start Windows > Administrive Tools > Routing and Remote Access imageimage

Configuring Routing and Remote Access Server:

  1. Right click Server > click on “Configure and Enable Routing and Remote Access”image
  2. It launches Routing and Remote Access Server Setup wizard, Click Nextimage 
  3. Select the “Custom Configuration” for working on Routing and Remote Accessimage
  4. Select the “LAN Routing” in the list of available servicesimage
  5. Click “Finish”image
  6. Click on “Start Service” promptimage
  7. Once service is successfully started, you’ll notice the Green circle on the server and list of network connections image
