Fix: Android OS: “No available device administrators” and “Phone not listed/appearing in Android Device Manager”

Error:

You notice that on your Android Mobile > Settings > Security > DEVICE ADMINISTRATION > Device Administrator > “No available device administrators”

 

Cause:

This expected on a new Android device as it may not have the latest updates that include “Android Device Manager”  -OR-

You have got your Phone Erased/Wiped-Off and/or Done a factory reset

 

Fix:

To fix this, you need to get “Android Device Manager” component installed on your phone which can be done by letting your Phone to update it’s Google software. 

 

Once Installed you’ll see: “Android Device Manager” listed in below path

Settings > Security > DEVICE ADMINISTRATION > Device Administrator > “Android Device Manager”  (Allow Android Device Manager to lock or erase a lost device)

 

To make your phone listed on “Android Device Manager” web site:

On your Android phone goto: Settings > Security > DEVICE ADMINISTRATION > Device Administrator > “Android Device Manager” > Activate which allows below access”

  1. Erase all data
  2. Change the screen-unlock password
  3. Lock the screen

  1. I did all of this – when I searched for updates, it says I’m using latest version. But I still have message “No available device administrator”. What else can I do? I did a factory reset aa instructed by my carrier tech department. Also, Play Store has message that it’s stopped working and I can’t get into Play Store at all.

    1. Do you see below option on your device?

      Settings > Security > DEVICE ADMINISTRATION > Device Administrator > “Android Device Manager” (Allow Android Device Manager to lock or erase a lost device)
