Renaming Citrix XenServer Host hostname

You need to rename your existing XenServer host, here are the steps for hoe to do it.

Connect to the XenServer Console

  1. Connect to your XenServer via XenCenter
  2. Navigate to the Console of the XenServer
  3. In console, you usually see it running “Configuration” program as shown belowimage
  4. You can also launch this Configuration program by running below command:

[root@POC /]# xsconsole

Rename the XenServer

  1. Select “Network and Management Interface”, click enter
  2. Select “”Configure Management Interface”, click enter
  3. Provide the login credentials to perform the operationimage
  4. Select the NIC that’s used by the xenserver, in my case it’s “eth0: Gigabit Network Connection”, click enterimage
  5. Select the DHCP or Static IP address configuration, in my case I used Static IP assignment, then click enterimage
  6. Then you can update the hostname assigned under the “Hostname” field for that IP address configuration image
  7. For the Hostname change from XenCenter, you’ll be prompted about image
  1. Copy Hostname to XenCenter Name
  2. Keep the current XenCenter name
  3. Enter a New XenCenter Name
  • Choose “Copy Hostname to XenCenter Name” so that it’s be consistent in both XenCenter as well as on the XenServer host
  • Quit the Configuration
  • Reboot the XenServer from the XenCenter and then new hostname will come into effect in both XenCenter as well as on the XenServer as shown below image
