CTX131257 – UPHClean Beta Version 2.0 Download – Troubleshooting Citrix Logoff Profile Related Issues – Citrix Knowledge Center

Summary

This article provides details and information on the new beta 2.0 version of Uphclean.exe.

Requirements

The current beta release build installs on Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Additionally, there is a 32-bit and 64-bit version available for download.

Background

This Uphclean is a valuable tool to assist with profile related issues in Windows and Citrix environments (and with Citrix Profile Management). Uphclean.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft’s User profile cleanup service. It helps with logoff issues that arise as a result of user’s profiles not unloading properly at logoff time; most often this is as a result of system services or programs that run in the background during a session which do not terminate correctly, or release their handles on the registry at logoff time.

Uphclean.exe is particularly useful when used in conjunction with Citrix Profile Management. The most recent non-beta version of UPHclean available is version 1.6. Any related profile logoff issues that are not corrected by version 1.6 may be corrected by testing v2.0 beta.

More Information

There have been some reports of crashes or hangs with those who have tested the 2.0 beta. This current beta build (2.0.49.0) will stay the only code available as there are no current plans for a public release. If you experience any related crashes or hangs after implementation of UPHClean 2.0, then you might be interested in restricting UPHClean from processing certain handles. UPHClean ignores handles that are held opened to profile hives for the users specified on the user exclusion list, or by processes specified on the process exclusion list.

These lists are specified using the following registry values:

HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesUPHCleanParametersPROCESS_EXCLUSION_LIST
HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesUPHCleanParametersUSER_EXCLUSION_LIST.
